On November 2, 2017, the Board of Directors of Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA voted to include Camp Golden Pond as one of properties it will “retire” as a Council-owned property.
In order to preserve the camp we love, alumnae and Friends of Camp Golden Pond are organizing to explore the feasibility of acquiring the property once it is divested by GSHPA. Friends of Camp Golden Pond’s intent is to preserve the property as a regional outdoor/environmental/artistic education and retreat center. This group is forming as a separate entity from State College Girl Scouts (Service Unit 416). Everyone is welcome to engage in respectful dialogue regarding the future of this valuable community asset by joining the Friends of Camp Golden Pond Facebook group or contacting Friends of Camp Golden Pond directly. This fledgling organization has a lot of work ahead of them if they are to be successful and will require your help. Please spread the word and get involved!
As a step towards documenting the history and import of the camp, we encourage everyone to share their memories. Daisy/Brownie leader Megan has started us off with some heartfelt reflections.
