Savannah 2019

On Thursday, March 15th a group of girls and adults met for an informational meeting about  a June 2019 trip to Savannah, Georgia–a charming southern city and the Birthplace of Girl Scouts.  Travel dates are not yet set but will be sometime between June 15th and June 23rd, 2019.

Keep reading for important details if you are interested in participating!

All girls who will be Cadettes, Seniors, or Ambassadors (6th grade and up for the 2019-2020 school year) are eligible for the trip.  This is a Service Unit level travel experience and girls do not need to travel with their troop or with a parent. All adult attendees will be GSHPA registered and cleared volunteers, many of whom have chaperoned similar trips in the past.

Adults who are registered Girl Scouts and have all of their clearances are also able to attend. Adults who attend should understand that they will have responsibilities including but not limited to chaperoning groups at tourist sites, while walking around the city, and during free time.   We need enough adults to meet ratios as a whole group and for multiple smaller groups for touring purposes.

We discussed logistical matters like modes of travel–most likely Fullington motorcoach, where to stay–hotel in Historic District, things to do and see, where to eat,  dress code, and code of conduct for girls and adults. Cost of the trip will be approximately $900/person and will be dependent on how many people travel, how we travel, and where we stay.    We will be fundraising for this trip.

A firm commitment to travel and a non-refundable deposit of $100/per person are required by June 1st.  Please contact the Activities Planning Committee for information on financial assistance. We will be having a planning meeting on Thursday, April 19th from 7:00 to 8:30 and one on Sunday, May 6th from 2:00 to 3:30 to firm up travel plans and or itinerary.  Both meetings will be at Gray’s United Methodist Church near Stormstown, 5687 Buffalo Run Road, Port Matilda 16870.  Please plan to attend at least one meeting as we will be voting on where to stay and on many of the things that we want to do.
