Hike Challenge 8: Musser Gap Short Loop

This week we are going to tackle the Musser Gap Short Loop.  This is a slightly more difficult trail due to the elevation changes.  The trail is beautiful and there is a lovely creek with little water falls.  You can do this out and back for a shorter hike or you can do the full short loop.  There are also options to extend the hike further by connecting to the Mountain Mist Trail and/or going a short distance to the relatively newish Lion’s Valley Vista.

Shaver’s Creek Parking area is open Monday through Friday from 10am until 5pm. Gates close promptly at 5pm so please take that into consideration when planning your parking. Restrooms are also open from M-F 10am-5pm.

Attached is the Stone Valley Trail map which includes the blaze colors for the trail.  The color of the trail on the map corresponds to the blaze color used along that trail.   The Lake Perez Loop is ORANGE.

Hike Challenge 4: Shingle Mill Trail @ Black Moshannon State Park

This week we are heading to the Shingle Mill Trail which is located in Black Moshannon State Park.   The trail meanders along the Black Moshannon creek so you can enjoy hearing the water as you hike along.  There are some rocks and roots to be mindful of, but nothing too tricky.   The trail is narrow so single file hiking is best.  It is shaded and cool.
